See the bottom of the linked page for installation instructions and examples of the fonts. I am setting text in TextView from string resource. Normally, Hebrew works in Right-To-Left format. When I set a text, it sets the text Right-To-Left format in LG, Samsung, Sony Phone but in HTC it. Install Unicode Hebrew Fonts. Before you setup your keyboard layout for Hebrew, make certain to install a font that supports the full Biblical Hebrew Unicode vowel set (Unicode 4.1 or above). Ezra SIL SR, Cardo, and Taamey Frank CLM are excellent fonts in the Open Siddur font pack to install. We’ve provided a special font pack containing. All your Hebrew speech will be converted into Hebrew text with auto correction. Just use this application, speak in your selected language and get your text automatically typed. They should work on a Mac or PC. If you already have a unicode Hebrew keyboard installed, you don’t need to install the one that comes with the font pack. The fonts will work just fine with your current keyboard. I use Logos’ keyboards.

SBL Hebrew font is also unicode compliant and available here; the font license is only slightly more restrictive. Tyndale House’s Ezra SIL and Cardo fonts are nice as well (Cardo is especially nice for Greek). Tyndale House’s fonts are included in the Open Siddur font pack, or you can download them here.

Keep in mind that some of these files download as compressed (zipped) folders. After the zipped folder has downloaded, you have to right click it and click “extract all.” When the files are extracted, look for the actual font file (usually a .ttf file). Drag and drop that file into your system’s font folder (usually labeled “Fonts”). I added this folder to my “Favorites” in Windows Explorer for easy access.

  1. Download:
  2. Install HTC Sync from your HTC device
    1. Connect device to computer using USB cable.
    2. Mount the SD card from the HTC Alerts Menu (Drag from the top of the screen).
    3. Install the sync application from the newly discovered drive in Windows.
  3. Extract the three zip files into some folder (separate folders for each zip).
  4. Go to the Android SDK folder and open the tools folder.
  5. Copy the two files from the boot image zip (1.b) into the tools folder:
    1. boot.img.insecure
    2. boot.img
  6. Shutdown the phone.
  7. Press and hold the back key and power on the phone.
    This is get you into the fastboot screen (the white screen with three androids at the bottom).
  8. Connect the phone to the USB cable if it’s unplugged.
  9. On Windows, open cmd.exe (Start àRun à cmd.exe à Enter):
    1. Change the directory to the tools directory you’ve created earlier.

    3. Now your device will start from the given image with root access.
  10. Install the fonts
    1. Once the phone has loaded, repeat the steps in 2.b to mount the SD card in Windows.
    2. Copy the font files from the zip file (1.c) to the SD card’s root folder.
    3. From the phone’s alerts menu, unmount the SD card.
  11. Gain root access:
    1. In the phone’s alerts menu, click HTC Sync. This will popup the HTC Sync tool in Windows. Ignore it!

    3. From the prompt you got (#) run the following command to mount the phone’s file system in RW mode:
  12. Install the fonts on the phone (when you run each command the output will be the command itself):
    1. Backup the original font files by running the following commands in the shell (#) – Run each command separately (don’t just copy-paste all the lines!):
    2. Copy the new font files from the SD card into the phones ROM:
  13. The phone will restart and load the original Android ROM.
  14. Enjoy the Hebrew!
