Kodi Yosemite Valley
I love Kodi on a Mac Mini. The hardware is silent (Enough) for being out in the open, its powerful enough to play H265/HEVC @ 1080p/60, and anything less than that. Ive been enjoying it so much that I upgraded the display the other day, and this is where the problems began.
I purchased this 70' Visio 4K set from Costco to replace the smaller 1080P set thats now been re-purposed elsewhere. Problem is that the Mac Mini only sees this set as a 4K device - this means that I am limited to 2160P @ 30/24hz. That makes using Kodi a choppy affair as well as causing general problems for 60fps video - the Mac Mini isnt powerful enough to scale h265 content or h264 60fps 1080p content up to 4k/30.
The Yosemite display options arent of any help - they only allow scaling - not native resolutions - so I can scale to 1080 output but really im still outputting at 4K downsampled to scale and still limited to 24/30hz.
Not to be deterred, I install switchresx and force 1080 output - this almost works as at desktop 1080P/60 is fine but then when Kodi tries to match native video output it all goes to hell, and it garbles the video output badly.
Anyone else know of ways to manipulate resolutions on 10.10? I wound not have thought a new set would have introduced such a maddening problem, but then again, I'm being naive if getting a 4K set connected to a mac isnt being an 'early adopter'.
